The School-Is-Hell website is brought to you by the Better Education Foundation, an organization founded by Paul Victor. Our purposes are grand but simple: to make the education system better and to humanize the K-12 school experience.
After decades of often well-intentioned reform and more than an occasional cynical manipulation of America’s schools systems, they have been contorted into a hellish waste of time, effort, and money.
School and education are not the same thing; school and learning are not the same thing. Great efforts have been expended to improve schools, as often as not at the expense of good education.
It is time to stop accepting the school experience as an unpleasant initiation, a hazing, necessary to get to real life. The way we run our schools today is bad for students, bad for teachers, bad for parents, and bad for taxpayers. It is time for truly outside-the-box educational reform.
